Blackout Ireland

August 29, 2007 at 3:48PM Electric Picnic 2007, or “Why I’m not going this year”

I decided to post this up on account of the site getting a lot of hits for my Electric Picnic 2006 Timetable entry from last year.

No, I’m not heading this year. In spite of lots of bands I really, really want to see playing--it’s a cracking lineup--there’s not a chance in hell. It’s wildly over-priced, I’m sick of the awful chemical toilets (especially after the compost ones at Irish Green Gathering this year), and I think this is going to be the first year it really goes the way of Oxegen, where the scumbags and teenagers descend and ruin the fun for the rest of us. That is all.

I also resent that “early-bird” tickets stunt they played after EP 2006 for EP 2007. That was just friggin’ ridiculous.

I’m with you. Seems like it will all go the way of the pear after the well-mediocre coverage in the press this year. Bah humbug.

Thankfully you were both wrong, not a scumbag to be seen and it was actually even better then last year. The organisers even listened to us and made sure the camp-sites were closer to the venue which rocked.

Well, that’s positive at least.

What about parking though? I remember it being a royal pain in the arse traipsing back and forth between the campsite and the the car last year. That was better this year, I hope.

Nope, I gotta admit, parking was a royal mess again. But having said that I’m not sure how they could improve it, short of building a multi-story carpark just for us. But humm, maybe not.

Not a scumbag in sight - people almost too polite! Brilliant line-up (but needed better headliners on the main stage), great vibe, no complaints - well worth the money
